a walk to remember

Nope, not the movie. The girls and I went for a walk yesterday. The weather was gorgeous, sunny and in the low 80's, nice breeze, bright blue sky...we couldn't ask for more, especially since it's mid-October. The thing the girls were most excited about was the abundance of dandelions in a nearby field. They picked them and blew the seeds far and wide. Simple pleasures!

We saw some beautiful fall colors...these leaves reminded us of Christmas. So there we were in the middle of autumn, with hot summer temperatures, picking the dandelions of spring, but thinking of Christmas. Okay, so the thing that made this walk so memorable was this......

a bizarre fungus growing in our yard...it's called a stinkhorn. I had to take a picture, but we didn't get close enough to smell it. The girls wouldn't go near it but it is something that they won't forget any time soon. Today it's rainy and cold...happy fall!

I am so glad the weather is finally getting cooler and the leaves are changing.

My kids would have had to smell it...they wouldn't have been satisfied until they did and I did too.

I think if I saw that in my lawn I might have to call CSI;) It just kinda looks like a finger. But when I hear what it was called I would have HAD to smell it then I would have been sorry I did;)
